First Tech Challenge (FTC)
Eden Prairie's First Tech Challenge is for students entering 7th-8th grade in the Fall of 2016. FIRST programs were developed to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders, by engaging them in mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills. Are you ready to challenge your mind and compete head-to-head with robots? Then check out the FIRST Tech Challenge!
FTC offers students like you the opportunity to build robots, learn computer programming and compete against other teams at the local, regional and national level. You will gain practical, hands-on skills that test the theories and concepts you learn in the classroom. There are over 20,000 students from around the globe who design and build robots to compete against one another in competition.
Team meeting days and times will be decided by the mentor and team members to help fit the schedule of all team members. Each team will build and program a robot to complete the 2016 FIRST mission. Teams will compete with their robot in 1-2 regional tournaments in the metro area near the end of the season. New Eden Prairie FTC teams will be formed in August or early September. Parent involvement is an important part of the FTC program. We ask that all parents participate as a volunteer in some way, whether it be as a mentor or offering to organize snacks. Teams are contingent on identifying a volunteer mentor to lead the team through the season. If we are unable to identify a mentor for the team, all participants will be refunded. All lead mentors receive $50 off their child's FTC registration in the form of a refund after all teams are established.
FTC will meet Tue/Thur after school until 5:00 p.m.. After MEA, teams will also start meeting on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.. As it gets closer to tournament time, hours may be extended until 6:00 p.m. and Saturday until 1:00 p.m..
