Parent Topic - It's Never Too Early to Talk About Race

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) / Parent Education -
ECFE 2020/2021 - Revised

Join this online 5 week discussion to help increase your knowledge and comfort level talking about race with young children. Each week the discussion will be centered on a short assignment sent the week before each class. These are a combination of articles to read, podcast episodes, or a video. Class assignments should take no more than one hour each week. “Young children notice and think about race. Adults often worry that talking about race will encourage racial bias in children, but the opposite is true. Silence about race reinforces racism by letting children draw their own conclusions based on what they see. Families can play a powerful role in helping children of all ages develop positive attitudes about race and diversity and skills to promote a more just future—but only if we talk about it! (The Children’s Community School, 2018) Class links will be sent via email upon registration.
