  • Laws and Safety: What You Need to Know - Living in Eden Prairie: An Orientation to Local Culture series

    This session will provide a basic introduction to the systems in place that keep people safe. Learn about the role of local police and how community members interact with them, some laws that may be different here, and what you can do to keep your family safe in Eden Prairie. This is a great place to get your questions answered!ABOUT THE SERIES: This is 1 of 8 classes offered in the Living in Eden Prairie: An Orientation to Local Culture series to help immigrants and refugees understand the local customs and norms of the community. This series will be presented in English. You are invited to attend as many sessions as you would like. Session 1: Housing 101, September 18 Session 2: Renters Rights and Responsibilities, October 16 Session 3: Laws and Safety, November 20 Session 4: All About Money, January 22 Session 5: Parenting in America, February 26 Session 6: Minnesota and Local Cultural Norms, March 19 Session 7: Navigating the School System, April 16 Session 8: Know Your Community Resources, May 21 DISCOUNTS: Fee assistance is available through the Community Education office. Call (952) 975-6940. If you register for and attend all 8 classes, you will receive a $40 Community Education gift certificate at the end of the series. CHILD CARE: There is childcare available for up to age 6 for $6 per child. You can register and pay for childcare online for up to two children. If you need childcare for more than two children or want to pay by phone, please call (952) 975-6940. Through the Family Resources Program, we can answer questions about what services are provided locally and by whom, facilitate connection to other organizations, and help navigate systems and advocate for families in need.
