Parent Workshop: Reducing Trauma & Protecting Our Kids
Parenting

Kids will be kids, so it’s always an adult’s responsibility to keep children safe. Learn about the impact of childhood trauma, what you can do prevent certain kinds of trauma, and what resources are available to support families in our community. This workshop will include an overview of Adverse Childhood Experiences, also known as ACEs, and a presentation from Be SMART, an organization working to help parents and adults normalize conversations about gun safety and take responsible actions that can prevent child gun deaths and injuries. Leave this session feeling empowered and better prepared to support your child's physical safety and mental health. The intended audience is parents or other adults who care about creating safe environments for children. As this session will be held on Zoom, you will need access to video and audio on a computer, tablet or smartphone with internet connection. Zoom is free to use. The link will be emailed to you prior to class.

INTERACTIVE Parent Workshop with MnNeat: Regulation Tools from Common Household Items for your Neurodivergent Student (Autism, ADHD, and more)

Gain a basic understanding of sensory processing, interoception, and regulation to support your Neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, etc.) student. MnNEAT will provide education on homemade sensory tools, explore sensory tool stations, and make sensory tools you can take home and use. *Please register each participant individually.

American Heart Association Heartsaver® CPR AED & First Aid Training Certification Course

Learn to follow a plan to act quickly and effectively in a life-threatening situation. You will be trained in CPR and Airway Obstruction for adults, children, and infants by practicing your skills with manikins and AED (Automated External Defibrillators) trainers. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing and lifting. Please inform your instructor if you have any physical conditions that might prevent these activities. Consider bringing a pad or blanket to kneel on. Additionally, this course covers first aid. Learn a plan of action to recognize and deal with sudden illnesses, injuries, and environmental emergencies. This video-based, instructor-led course teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. Successful participation in this all in-person course results in an American Heart Association ‎Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED ‎Heartsaver® Certification. The Certificate is valid for two years. The course is the same for first timers and those who are recertifying. Note: We are back to fully in-person training. There is no e-Learning component to this course.

INFORMATIONAL Parent Workshop with MnNeat: Supporting Your Neurodivergent Student (Autism, ADHD, and more)

Learn how to advocate for your neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, etc.) child! We live in a world that doesn't always match what they need and often there are barriers to engaging in activities or daily living. MnNEAT will explore a framework that examines four key areas we can support, modify, and adapt, allowing for inclusion in chosen activities. We will discuss as a group the different supports and strategies in approaching professionals (educators, medical and mental health professional), caregivers (day care, family members, PCAS), advocating for services, supports, and accommodations, and challenging activities and behaviors at home. Sensory processing and regulation will be discussed throughout the presentation to better understand and meet your child's unique needs. *Please register each participant individually.

Please be aware that this is a 1.5 hour guided tour and may not be suitable for children under 5-years-old, depending on their needs.
