Traditional Pastries: Czech Kolaches

Adult Learning / Culinary Creations -
Fall 2025 Adult

Kolaches are one of Czechoslovakia’s most beloved national pastries—egg-rich, slightly sweet yeast dough filled with delicious fruit or cheese. Brought to the Midwest by Czech immigrants as early as the 1860s, these Old World treats are still treasured today.

In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to make authentic kolaches with a variety of traditional fillings like apricot, poppy seed, cottage cheese, and prune. We’ll explore different shapes, from classic rounds to tied squares and turnovers, while sharing samples along the way.

You’ll go home with an assortment to enjoy or freeze, plus a packet of time-tested recipes, tips, and techniques to keep the tradition alive in your own kitchen.
Better than the bakery—and made by you!

**An ingredients fee of $15 is payable to the instructor at class. Please also bring containers to take food home. Ages 14+ only, please.
